Triple Suns spotted over Chinese Sky

In a rare sight, an astronomical phenomenon occurred in Changchun, the capital city of Jilin Province in northeast China, which appeared to show three suns in the sky.

While the original sun was seen on the top, two smaller suns appeared on either side of it, with a strong light. The smaller suns were about one-tenth of the size of original sun.

The twin suns with bright light formed a rainbow-like image around the sun. Astronomers termed this rare phenomenon as "phantom sun".

It is unofficially called an 'ice halo'. It generally appears at this time of year when ice crystals create high clouds.
